LTW - Dancing For Autism
You can trace the history of Autism back to the early 1900's when the word was first used to describe adult Schizophrenia by Eugen Bleuler, a Swiss psychiatrist. In 1943, Dr. Leo Kanter at Johns Hopkins University described the symptoms of Autism based on a study of 11 children over a span of five years noting their withdrawal from human contact as early as age 1. For the next 20 years Autism and Schizophrenia were used together as it was believed at that time that children who were diagnosed with Autism would also be schizophrenic. During the sixties armed with more information about Autism, it became a diagnosis of it's own.
Unfortunately the statistical information has increased by 15% from what it was reported in the last two years. The statistics went from 1 in 68 children to 1 in 59 children. According to the 2018 statistics, 1 in 37 boys and 1 in 151 girls are diagnosed with Autism. This is a 15% increase from what we reported this time last year so raising awareness is our primary goal. It's important to learn why this is happening, how we can narrow down the field of diagnosis and more importantly, find a cure for it! Early detection and treatment are very important so get the facts! (National Autism Association)
Chances are you have a family member or know someone who has Autism. Members on our team have family members who have Autism too so it's our goal to help get the word out. April is Autism Awareness month and we're very happy to contribute to the cause! We have a great show for you and we hope you can join us in raising awareness for this very important cause! Hosted by Aryanna Draken. In lieu of tips, please make your donations to the Autism Awareness Kiosks. Make us your date destination this weekend!
